Platform Character Limits
Twitter counts URLs as 23 chars regardless of length
First 210 chars visible before 'See more' — make them count
Google truncates at ~600px display width, ~60 chars
Google may rewrite if too short or too long
Truncated to ~125 chars in feed — lead with the hook
Reading Time Calculation
Reading time is estimated at 200 words per minute — a conservative average for online reading. Blog posts and articles show estimated read time to help readers decide whether to commit. For landing pages, aim for content that reads in under 3 minutes. For documentation, 5–10 minutes is acceptable.
Tips for Writing Tight Copy
- — Cut adverbs — 'very', 'really', 'extremely' add length without adding meaning.
- — Replace passive voice with active: 'results are shown' → 'the tool shows results'.
- — Break long sentences at the first natural pause — two short sentences beat one long one.
- — Front-load value — put the most important thing first, before any context.
- — Remove throat-clearing openers: 'In today's world', 'It's important to note that'.
